These Honey Wheat Rolls are a healthy and versatile roll that go with any meal or just as a snack or sandwich roll. Try them with ham or roast beef, lovely! You can adjust the honey or sugar content to your taste, but every bread recipe does need a little sugar to feed the yeast.
Honey Wheat Rolls Recipe
3/4 C Water
2 C bread flour
1 C whole wheat flour
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp honey
4 tsp active dry yeast
Place all ingredients together in order of the recipe in the bread pan with your bread machine. Select Dough and press start. OR, if you are not using a bread maker, place all ingredients into your mixer, I use a Kitchen Aid, with a dough hook, and on slow speed, combine all ingredients until a dough is formed. Continue mixing or kneading the dough for 5 minutes. Turn off your machine and let the dough rest for 10 minutes. Next, pull the dough off the hook to the bottom of the bowl and continue to mix or knead for an additional 5 minutes on slow speed. Turn the machine off. Finally, take the Honey Wheat Rolls dough from the dough hook, and let it rise in the bowl (the bowl should be pretty clean) for 1 hour.
Keep the bowl covered and in a place in your kitchen that is warm and away from drafts.
Once the dough has risen to double in size, remove it from the bowl and punch it down to remove all the air bubbles. Roll it out into a long rope about 12 ” long. Divide the dough into 1″ segments. Each segment will become a roll. See the picture below.
Shape each segment into a roll by smoothing out the dough and forcing the outside edges into the inside like your rolling a pair of socks. Place on a greased sheet pan and let rise double in size. Bake at 350F for 15-18 minutes.
