These cookies come from a wonderful book that I cook out of all the time called the Best of Country Cookies from Taste of Home. This book is full of all the cookie contest winners from a contest that got over 34000 entries! Every recipe is amazing.
Double Decker Brownies Recipes
1 C butter
2 C packed brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 C all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 C chopped pecans or walnuts
2- 1 oz squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one and a time beating well between each one. Add vanilla and beat well. Don’t forget to scrape down the bowl with a rubber spatula between adding each new ingredient.
Add dry ingredients: flour, baking powder and salt to creamed mixture. Stir in nuts. Divide the dough in half and add the melted chocolate to one half. Pour into the greased 9X13 inch pan and spread evenly into the pan. Spread the white layer on top of the chocolate layer.
Bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes until browned and edges come away from the side. Test with a tooth pick. It should come out clean. Let cool completely before icing.
1/4 C butter
2 Squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 C confectioners’ sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2-3 tbsp milk
In a saucepan or the microwave, melt butter and chocolate together and let cool. Beat in confectioners’ sugar, vanilla and enough milk to make frosting spreadable. Frost cooled brownies. Makes 3 dozen.
